Blast From the Past – Looking at Your Old Writing
Hey Everyone!
I hope the month has been good to you all so far. Sheesh, we’re already halfway through March. Well, they do say that time flies when you’re having fun, but they also say that time goes faster when you’re older. If it has gone by fast for you, I hope it’s for the former reason.
Anyhow, I’ve been doing some editing this week and let me tell you, I am not enjoying it. Mostly ’cause I keep daydreaming. Hmm, might be a problem.
But that’s not why I brought this up. Some of the stuff that I’m editing I wrote about a year ago. Yeah, it’s not really that long ago, but man, has my writing changed since then. As I’m reading through the stuff I wrote I nearly cringe, and this stuff is only a year old. Way, way too many saids, answereds, questioineds, replieds, and any others you can think of.
I’ve seen some of my even older writing and that is just on a whole ‘nother level of bad. Not only was there bad grammar, bad punctuation, and bad word choices, but the whole plot was just a cacophony of chaos (one of my more favorite made-up phrases.).
My point with all of this is that I can clearly see how bad my writing was back then. Which means in order to be able to see how bad it was, I must be that much better now. When I wrote those pieces, they were the swan song of my writing career. Not really, but that’s how I felt when writing them.
Take a look back at some of your old writing. Yes, I know that it will make you cringe and want to launch it into the sun, never to be seen from again. But look how far you’ve come! You’re only gonna get better. A few years from now you’ll look back and what you wrote today and you will see how much you have improved yet again.
You’re doing great! I promise you.
